Presidents, Pegged.

Detroit designer Meg Jannott has challenged herself to "brand" each of the forty-four American presidents, chronicling her efforts on a Tumblr feed, here. After scrolling through, I'm both very impressed and slightly ashamed - Chester Arthur? Zachary Taylor? Did we really have a president named Millard? Time to hit the books.

The last one's my favorite, for obvious reasons. See the rest, here

  1. Wow, this is super impressive...just the other day one of the little boys I nanny was asking me about presidents, and one of the only questions I could answer was, "Who was the first president?". Time to hit the books, indeed. =]

  3. Such an awesome website! Each logo is so creative. I'm also in no way a history buff either. While reading through, I kept saying to myself, "Wow! I forgot about that guy!" This would be a great exercise in school to learn all the presidents :)

  4. Teddy Roosevelt is SO good. It's like "this guy doesn't need a slogan, here is a picture of him waist deep in a river riding a moose."

  5. Oh man, I completely forgot that we had a president named Millard. Or Chester. Woops. Also, I completely agree with Sam's comment above. TR is the Ron Swanson of presidents!

  6. These are so cool. I have a vivid memory of my 8th-grade history teacher wearing a t-shirt listing all the presidents, and I asked, "Who the heck was Franklin Pierce?" He still stumps me.

I love the type on Wilson's in this bunch, and Kathy is so right-- Teddy Roosevelt is the man.

  8. Even though she used so many different styles and fonts, I think they all still look rather stately.

  9. Love it. Such awesome work. So glad someone thought of doing this! (Not sure that branding the prime ministers of Australia would be quite as interesting...)

  10. This is amazing and so clever.

Sometimes I feel nervous that I don't know things like this. Bc honestly, I had never heard the names of some of these people before. Except I must have bc I had like a billion years of schooling from nursery to grad school so this means that I must have amnesia or am getting old. It's not that many names to remember! I actually feel excited that in a few years my baby will be in school and studying this and so much more and I guess I will learn it again.
