Slug Style.

The first time I visited UC Santa Cruz, I hated it immediately. I was a senior in high school touring colleges with my parents, and UCSC seemed the polar opposite of the bustling urban campus I'd always envisioned myself a part of. As fate would have it, I ended up there nonetheless - and spent four of the happiest, most inspiring and engaging years of my life at a school I was sure I'd loathe. I couldn't be happier to have been proven wrong about it, and I'm exceedingly proud to be a banana slug (Santa Cruz's neon-hued mascot) for life.

So, of course, I was thrilled when Megan told me about a UCSC street style blog yesterday. Santa Cruz style always struck me as artful, creative, refreshingly freewheeling - see for yourself below.

Love you, banana slugs. See more at UC Santa Cruz Street Style, here. And have a lovely Thursday!

  2. Hooray banana slugs!

One of my best friends is from Santa Cruz-she's not a banana slug, but she's still awesome :)

These are so awesome! I love seeing each city's unique style!

  6. Oh, this is great! I've only been to Santa Cruz once (also on a college tour) and thought it was beautiful, but definitely the opposite of what I thought a college campus would be. I wonder if there's one for UCSD...

  8. I loved Santa Cruz when I visited there years ago. It's the perfect little coastal town. Of course, my heart will always be in Lake Tahoe, where I went to college.

  9. ahhhh, it's such a beautiful campus! i'm from san jose, california so i'm really familiar with santa cruz! we used to go there every weekend as a kid. my mom would take us to rio del mar beach quite often and on the way home we would swing by marianne's ice cream!

my brother almost went to uc santa cruz on a soccer scholarship. he played a match with the team and the field has the most AMAZING view of the ocean. i joked with my brother afterwards and asked how he could focus on the game with such a great view ;)

Ethaney, I know that view well - my freshman year dorm looked out onto that field! Unbelievably gorgeous.
